New Features in Reporting and data analysis for BC 27.0

Reporting and data analysis

Business Central 27.0 makes it easier than ever to turn data into insights. With enhanced AI-driven tools like Copilot Analysis Assist, users can describe the analysis they want in plain language — for example, “show me top customers by revenue this year” — and get immediate results without complex setup. Smarter search in reports, expanded language support, and improved performance feedback help teams find information faster and design analyses with confidence. Together, these updates reduce the time spent on clicks and queries, giving decision-makers clearer insights and a stronger foundation for data-driven growth.

Enhanced Financial Reporting

Finance teams need accurate, flexible, and easy-to-use reporting tools. The enhanced Financial Reporting feature in Business Central 27.0 delivers improvements for both report viewers and authors, reducing manual effort and making reporting faster and more reliable.

Benefits for report viewers:

  • Automate report delivery by running financial reports on a schedule.
  • Receive outputs directly in email or the report inbox for better visibility and efficiency.

Benefits for report authors:

  • Streamlined setup with auto-filled No. and Description fields for row definitions.
  • Excel-based editing for easier updates to row definitions.
  • Smarter notifications when G/L account names change, prompting updates to report definitions.
  • More flexible layouts, including demoted fields in the Options menu, moved name/description fields on definition cards, and dynamic column headings.
  • Currency-aware reporting, with support for both local currency (LCY) and extra reporting currency (ACY).

These improvements allow finance teams to spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time analyzing results, leading to greater accuracy, efficiency, and insight.

Smarter Purchasing Analytics with Power BI

Understanding purchasing performance is critical for managing costs, forecasting demand, and building strong vendor relationships. The updated Power BI Purchasing app in Business Central delivers richer analytics and new KPIs, giving businesses deeper insights into purchasing trends and supplier performance.

What’s new in this release:

  • Refactored semantic model — cleaner structure, ready for open source customization.
  • Map visuals to display purchasing data by location.
  • Flexible filtering — add dimensions as filters or slicers to refine analysis.

New report pages include:

  • Key Purchasing Influencers – uncover drivers of purchasing activity.
  • Purchase Forecast Report – anticipate future buying needs.
  • Vendor Quality Analysis Report – track vendor reliability and performance.
  • Purchase Quote Overview – monitor quotes and negotiations.
  • Purchase Returns Overview – analyze return trends and reasons.

Enhancements to existing reports:

  • Sales Returns Overview – new measures for return rates (amount and quantity).
  • Purchases by Item – new ribbon chart showing purchase value by fiscal year and item category.
  • Purchase Value by Item Category – scatter plot for clearer visualization.
  • Purchases by Vendor – Pareto reporting and vendor purchases map.
  • Purchase by Purchaser – scatter plot of purchase value by purchaser.
  • Purchase by Location – vendor location map.

These updates give purchasing managers and finance teams more powerful tools to monitor performance, improve supplier relationships, and make smarter buying decisions.

    Enhanced Sales Reporting & Analytics

Reviewing detailed records like customer cards or large orders can take time and effort. The new Copilot Record Summaries feature saves you the work by providing a concise, AI-generated overview of the most important information. In just a couple of sentences, you get the insights you need to understand the data and decide on your next steps.

    What’s new in this release:

    • Deeper insights on popular pages such as the Customer card.
    • Expanded language support with 20 additional languages.
    • Clearer summaries with consistent use of currency codes.
    • Agent activity highlights showing when autonomous agents have created or modified the record (coming later in the wave).

    How to use record summaries:

    1. Make sure the Summarize with Copilot capability is turned on in your environment.
    2. Open a record such as a Customer or Sales Order.
    3. Look for the Copilot summary panel, which provides a short, easy-to-read overview.

With Copilot Record Summaries, you can focus on decisions instead of digging through data fields.
